Always check locally
Practice varies between units, countries and resource settings, and guidance changes. Before acting on anything you learn here, check your unit's own guidelines and policies, and discuss decisions about a patient with the responsible senior clinician. In an emergency, follow your local escalation and resuscitation procedures.
Never enter patient information
Don't put anything that could identify a patient anywhere on PICUlearn: not in Peeky, submissions, slides, course material or groups. That includes names, NHS or hospital numbers, dates of birth, addresses, photographs and detailed case descriptions. Peeky blocks obvious identifiers, but it can't catch everything, so the responsibility is yours.
Peeky, the learning assistant
Peeky answers from PICUlearn's own checked sources and shows where each point comes from. It is an AI system and can still be wrong or incomplete: check the sources it cites. It won't give drug doses, infusion rates or advice about an individual patient. Answers from its trusted-website search are labelled as not reviewed by PICUlearn.
Doses and prescribing
PICUlearn doesn't provide drug doses or dose calculators. Use the BNF for Children (or your national formulary), your unit's guidelines and your pharmacist.
Calculators
Each calculator shows its formula and source and is checked by PICUlearn before it goes live. They are for learning and cross-checking. Check every result against your unit's guidance and with a second clinician before use.
Procedures
Procedure walk-throughs and videos show how procedures are generally done. Reading and watching do not make anyone competent. Perform procedures only within your role, with the training and supervision your unit requires, and follow its procedure policy.
Third-party content
Much of the Library is teaching made by others (societies, hospitals, universities and educators), embedded from YouTube or Vimeo or shared by members. PICUlearn checks it before it appears but doesn't control or guarantee it. Guidelines are shown with their year and version; older guidance is flagged.
Certificates
A PICUlearn certificate shows you completed a course and passed its assessment. It is not a qualification or proof of competence. A course only counts as CPD-accredited when it shows the “CPD accredited” badge with the accrediting body's details.
