PICUlearn

Privacy

Last updated 22 October 2026

What PICUlearn stores about you, why, where it's kept, and how to have it deleted. In short: only what's needed to run your account, no advertising, and no patient data.

Who is responsible

PICUlearn (piculearn.com) is run by Lifetree Digital Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16508268, whose registered office is at 124-128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. Lifetree Digital Ltd is the data controller for your personal data under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

For anything about your data, email privacy@piculearn.com or write to us at the address above. Lifetree Digital Ltd is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, registration number ZC265276.

What we store

  • Your account: email address, and your name if you sign in with Google. Optionally your profession, grade, country and professional registration number if you add them.
  • A work email, if you add one to join a group that requires it, and when you confirmed it. It's only used to confirm where you work, never for mailings.
  • Your learning: course modules completed, quiz and assessment scores, and certificates.
  • Which videos you have opened, so “For you” doesn't suggest the same one twice and can offer to carry on where you left off. Only you and PICUlearn's admins can see it, and it is never shared.
  • Peeky questions and answers, and whether you marked an answer helpful. Kept for up to 12 months to check Peeky's answers are safe and to find gaps in the library, then deleted.
  • What you share: videos, slides, courses and events you submit, with your consent confirmations, and your group memberships and requests.
  • Email preferences: the areas you follow, your profession and region if you give them, and whether you want PICU this week, our Monday email (the videos and events in it are picked from those choices).
  • PICU this week: a record of your consent: your email address, your account if you have one, when and where you agreed, the exact wording you agreed to, when you confirmed, and when you stopped. If you signed up without an account, that is all we hold.
  • Feedback you send us: what it is about, your message, the page you sent it from, your email address if you give one, and your account if you are signed in. Only PICUlearn's admins read it.
  • Notifications on the site: the notices under the bell at the top of the page (for example, that your post in a group was approved). Only you can see them; they are deleted after 90 days.
  • Notification settings: if you turn on notifications, we store what your browser gives us so we can send them (an address for that device and its keys), which device it is, and which kinds you want. Only you can see it, and removing the device deletes it.
  • Basic technical data needed to keep you signed in and the site secure: the sign-in cookie, and the server logs our hosting providers keep, which include your IP address, browser and the pages requested. We do not use these to build any profile of you.

We don't store patient data and ask you never to enter any (see educational use). We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't sell or share your data for marketing.

Cookies, and what we store on your device

PICUlearn has no cookie banner because it does not need one. Everything we store on your device is strictly necessary for something you asked for, which under UK rules (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations) does not require consent. There is no advertising network, no analytics service, no tag manager and no third-party tracking script anywhere on the site.

Specifically, all we store is:

  • A sign-in cookie, set when you sign in, so you stay signed in as you move between pages. Signing out removes it.
  • An offline copy of pages you have visited, if you add PICUlearn to your home screen, so it still works on a poor signal. It is cleared whenever nobody is signed in.
  • A note of whether you have seen the “add to home screen” prompt, so we do not keep asking. Only ever written on a phone, and only once you are signed in.

A visitor who is not signed in has no cookies at all set by PICUlearn, and the site makes no requests to any other company's servers — even our fonts are served from piculearn.com.

The one exception is videos. Teaching videos hosted on YouTube are embedded through YouTube's privacy-enhanced address (youtube-nocookie.com), which sets no tracking cookies unless you press play; Vimeo and our own uploaded recordings work the same way. If you play an embedded video, that service may store something on your device under its own privacy policy. You can read any page without doing so.

Why we use it (lawful basis)

  • To provide your account and PICUlearn's features (contract): signing in, courses and certificates, Peeky, groups, submissions.
  • To keep PICUlearn safe and improve it (legitimate interests): checking submissions, reviewing Peeky's answers, preventing misuse, and counting how the site is used.
  • PICU this week (consent): only if you opt in, and never ticked for you; unsubscribe in one click from any issue, or from “Your updates”.

Where it's kept and who helps us

We use a small number of service providers, each bound by data protection terms:

  • Supabase: database, sign-in and private file storage for slides, in London (UK).
  • Bunny Stream (BunnyWay, EU): uploaded teaching videos, stored in a UK/EU region and played only through short-lived private links.
  • Vercel: hosts the website; pages are served from London, with content delivered through its global network.
  • Resend: sends PICUlearn's emails (sign-in links, work-email confirmation, the research email).
  • Anthropic (Claude) and Voyage AI: process Peeky questions to find and write answers, and help sort new content.
  • Google, if you choose to sign in with Google.
  • YouTube and Vimeo: when you play an embedded video, that service may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy.

Some of these providers are based in, or may process data in, the United States. Where data leaves the UK, it is protected by recognised safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge.

Uploaded teaching and groups

Videos and slides you upload are stored privately in the UK/EU and can only be viewed by signed-in members, or for group content, only by that group's members, through links that expire after a few hours. Group admins can see who has asked to join their group, the work email used, and the group's member list.

How long we keep it

  • Account, learning and certificates: until you delete your account. While your account exists, anyone with a certificate code can check it (it shows your name, the course and the date); deleting your account removes your certificates, so their codes stop working.
  • Peeky questions: up to 12 months.
  • Feedback: up to 2 years.
  • Which videos you have opened: until you delete your account.
  • Notifications on the site: 90 days.
  • Notification devices: until you turn notifications off, or the browser drops the subscription.
  • Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, then we keep a record that you unsubscribed so we don't email you again.
  • Unused work-email confirmation links: 24 hours.
  • Submissions: until you remove them or delete your account (see below).

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, have it deleted, restrict or object to how we use it, or receive a copy. Email privacy@piculearn.com and we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Deleting your account

Go to your account and choose Delete my account. This permanently deletes your account, learning progress, certificates, followed topics, viewing history, Peeky history and group memberships. Teaching you shared and that was approved stays available to others (it was shared with consent), but is no longer linked to you; remove anything you don't want kept from “Your submissions” first. Courses you wrote stay, showing the author name you chose.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
