Summary
Secondary analysis of data from a randomised trial examining parents' perceptions of family-centred care delivered by nurses in a paediatric cardiac intensive care unit after neonatal cardiac surgery. Perceptions were measured at discharge and related to parental post-traumatic stress symptoms four months later. Lower perceived family-centred care was associated with more PTS symptoms, greater severity and diagnosis of PTS disorder. Highlights the nursing role in welcoming parents and involving them in their infant's care to support family mental health.
