Summary
A randomised crossover trial in an Iranian level II neonatal unit assessing facilitated tucking as a non-pharmacological measure for procedural pain during endotracheal suctioning in 34 preterm infants. Pain was scored with the Preterm Infant Pain Profile with and without the positioning intervention. Fewer infants experienced severe pain when tucked, and mean pain scores were significantly lower. The authors suggest facilitated tucking is a safe adjunct for frequently repeated procedural pain in ventilated preterm neonates.
