Summary

This NICE guideline covered the recognition, diagnosis and early management of suspected sepsis across all age groups and care settings. It set out approaches to risk stratification, initial assessment and prompt treatment for people presenting with possible infection, including children and young people relevant to paediatric intensive care. The guidance has since been withdrawn and superseded by separate NICE guidelines on suspected sepsis in people aged 16 or over, in under 16s, and in pregnant or recently pregnant people. Readers should consult the replacement guidelines for current recommendations.
