Summary
A scoping review of studies published 2000-2024 examining whether adherence to guidelines or protocolised management for severe paediatric traumatic brain injury is associated with patient outcomes. Eight studies were included; protocol implementation and guideline adherence were consistently associated with lower mortality and better functional outcomes. The authors note the evidence is limited by observational and pre-post study designs. Relevant to PICU teams managing severe paediatric TBI and to those developing local protocols.
