Summary

A single-centre retrospective study comparing the PALICC criteria and the Berlin definition for identifying paediatric ARDS among PICU admissions with respiratory difficulty over three years. PALICC identified considerably more children with ARDS than Berlin, with moderate agreement between the two definitions. Children meeting Berlin criteria more often had severe disease, but duration of ventilation and mortality did not differ between groups. Useful for PICU clinicians applying definitions of PARDS in practice and research.
