Summary
Systematic review and meta-analysis of six randomised controlled trials (4030 children) comparing tight glycaemic control with usual care in critically ill children with hyperglycaemia. Tight control did not reduce hospital mortality, sepsis or seizures, but was associated with a lower new need for dialysis. It substantially increased the risk of any and severe hypoglycaemia. Relevant to PICU teams managing glucose control and insulin infusions.
