Summary
Meta-analysis of nine randomised trials (1,059 neonates) comparing videolaryngoscopy with direct laryngoscopy for neonatal tracheal intubation. Videolaryngoscopy improved first-attempt success and reduced airway trauma, with particular benefit for inexperienced operators and in the NICU, while time to intubation and number of attempts were similar. Rates of bradycardia and desaturation differed little between techniques. Relevant to PICU teams intubating neonates and small infants and to airway training.
