Summary

This systematic review identified and appraised 17 clinical practice guidelines for the acute (within 24 hours) management of paediatric traumatic brain injury, using the AGREE II instrument with reviewers from low, middle and high income settings. Most guidelines originated in high income countries and only a minority were paediatric-specific. Scope and purpose and clarity of presentation scored best, while applicability and editorial independence scored lowest, with variable rigour of development and stakeholder involvement. The authors argue for paediatric-specific guideline development and better attention to local applicability, particularly in resource-limited settings.
