Summary
Secondary analysis of the RESTORE cluster randomised trial examining school absence among children surviving PICU admission for acute respiratory failure and work absence among their caregivers at six months after discharge. Around two-thirds of school-aged survivors missed school, with a median absence of roughly two weeks, and over half of employed primary caregivers missed work. Older age and pre-existing comorbidity were associated with longer school absence. The findings highlight the family and socioeconomic burden of post-intensive care morbidity and support follow-up and rehabilitation planning.
