Summary

This BSPED guideline sets out the recommended management of diabetic ketoacidosis in children and young people under 18 years of age, replacing the interim 2020 version. It was revised by the BSPED diabetic ketoacidosis special interest group in light of updated NICE NG18 guidance and UK Resuscitation Council recommendations, and is broadly aligned with ISPAD guidance. Where evidence is limited, consensus recommendations are provided. Supporting materials include an online DKA calculator, an integrated care pathway and an overview algorithm for use by clinical teams in emergency departments, paediatric wards and intensive care.
