Summary

A small randomised controlled trial evaluating a lecture and simulation based Difficult Conversations Workshop for neonatal nurse practitioners in a level IV NICU. Participants' performance in a simulated conversation was scored blindly using a communication skills checklist and an empathy score. The workshop group showed higher empathy and communication skill scores than controls. Relevant to PICU teams developing simulation-based training for breaking bad news and family communication.
