Summary
Evidence-based Italian national guidelines on assessing and managing children under 16 presenting to the emergency department after blunt head trauma, where non-accidental injury is not suspected. Developed following a systematic review of literature since 2005 by a multidisciplinary group including paediatric intensive care, neurosurgery and neuroradiology input. Covers initial assessment and stabilisation, diagnosis of clinically important traumatic brain injury, and ED management and disposition. Cervical spine injury identification and management are outside its scope.
